The Role of Host
When considering how to create welcoming spaces in our programs, we can think about what it means to be a host in the space.
What did you learn about hosting early in life?
What practices of hosting were modeled for you growing up? Who was considered a host? What messages did you receive about yourself as a host?
Who are you as a host?
Think about who you are, rather than what you do. What qualities do you appreciate about yourself as a host? What is important to you; what values inform how you hold space?
How will you create a welcoming space in your program?
What aspects of being a “host” crossover to being the “facilitator” of a space? What is important to you when thinking about creating a welcoming space?
